Advertising with Social Media

Photographers Using Social Media

In my town, there is a few known photographers that put themselves out there on social media and try to attract mainly juniors in high school who need their senior pictures done for their senior year. When I was a junior, I was always seeing the people in the grade above me posting their senior pictures on social media. Not only did they just post their picture on Instagram and create their own caption for it, but I always noticed that in the caption they always tagged the photographer’s account in it and it was always “thank you so much for these beautiful pictures @ ______”. It then became time for me to get my senior pictures done so I scrolled through Instagram and looked for the names and account of those photographers and followed them.

I decided to follow this account “Jillybean”, but her real name is Jill. One day she posted that she was going to do a “concept shoot” and if you wanted to be a spokesmodel for it, you would get a discount off of your senior pictures. By putting that information out on her Instagram and Facebook, it obviously attracted many girls attention because by doing the concept shoot you got to get your hair and makeup done for free, and pictures taken of you, and you get to be a model for a day. By doing this, it helped her and her business a lot because then most people would want to do it considering they got a discount off of their senior pictures, and the word discount obviously attracts many people's attentions, which would give Jill more and more people who want their pictures done by her.

I ended up being a spokesmodel and doing the concept shoot with a few of my friends, and I also got to meet other people doing it. There was a big group of about thirty girls who did the shoot, which meant Jill already was doing thirty girl’s senior pictures, and that isn’t counting anyone else who decides to have Jill take their pictures as well. Senior pictures are extremely expensive, so having 30+ people getting their pictures done by one person is extremely good for them and their business.

Being a spokesmodel, I had to advertise and post on my Instagram pictures that she took of me, and I had to tag her accounts in the caption, and we also were told to post on Facebook a small paragraph about why we enjoyed getting our pictures done with her and why others should chose her. It was apart of the deal that if we were spokesmodels, we had to advertise on each of our own Instagram and Facebook accounts. All of the advertisement that all of the girls my age and I had to do, it helps the girls in the grade below us who will eventually need their senior pictures done too, so the advertising on everyone’s social media helps Jill and her photography business.
